JUAN VARGAS APPLAUDS HOUSE PASSAGE OF FARM WORKFORCE MODERNIZATION ACT
Washington, D.C. (March 18, 2021) – Today, Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) released the following statement after the House passage of H.R. 1603 Farm Workforce Modernization Act.
The legislation will provide an earned pathway to legalization for those who have and will continue working in agriculture, and improve the H-2A visa guestworker program with more modern procedures.
"Many people in my district are part of the agriculture industry and help bring food to our tables. This is why I voted to pass the Farm Workers Modernization Act which will provide stability to our farms and farmworkers. Those who feed our country should not be living in fear of deportation. The Farm Workforce Modernization Act provides a path to legalization for more than one million— currently undocumented— farmworkers.
"My father was a farmworker who immigrated to the United States from Mexico. Like him, these essential workers deserve an opportunity and pathway to legalization. I applaud Congress for upholding the American Dream and passing the Farm Workforce Modernization Act.”
Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County, and California’s entire U.S.-Mexico border. Vargas was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and is currently serving his fifth term in Congress. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee and House Foreign Affairs Committee.
